The "International Creole Fest":
A feast of sounds, colors, rhythms and flavors to delight everyone!
This multi-disciplinary cultural event is designed to promote and celebrate the diversity of the Creole world. Dance troupes, music bands, visual artists, scholars, craftsmen and chefs of the Creole world will disclose the richness of the Creole culture. Born from the convergence of the European culture with that of the African, Amerindian and Asian people, its spicy flavor and rhythms tease our palette and ears daily. Even so, much of the Creole culture is yet to be known; come experience it right in your backyard!
In concert: The most sought-after artists of the Creole world. including Beethova Obas, the modern troubadour of Creole music,Tanya St-Val, the diva of the French-Caribbean Soul-Zouk and Emeline Michel, the "Queen of Haitian Song" , will perform live during this free-admission festival. The best of Rasin, Konpa, Troubadour, Soul-Zouk music and much more will be showcased.
Literary forum by renowned scholars at FAU
A forum entitled « Evolution of Creole and globalization » will be held on Saturday May 28 at Florida Atlantic University (Askew Tower Room 724, FAU, Downtown Campus, Las Olas Blvd, Fort Lauderdale). Other members of the panel include Professor Raphael Confiant (Martinique) Université des Antilles et de la Guyane, novelist winner of « 2004 Prix des Amériques Insulaires et de la Guyane », Lionel Trouillot (Haiti) Writer and Professor of Literature at Universite Caraibe, winner of « 2005 Human Right Literature » Bruxelles; Professor Roger Toumson (Guadeloupe) Université des Antilles et de la Guyane.
A.C.T.I.O.N. Foundation has been providing cultural and educational programs for the past four years in Fort Lauderdale. The Broward County found it fitting to praise the accomplishments of the Foundation by proclaiming May 2004 "ACTION Foundation Month". The foundation plans to make the International Creole Fest a yearly event involving the community. |
